How do I type vowels?

After a consonant, aa → ా, i → ి, ii → ీ, u → ు, uu → ూ, e → ె, E → ే, ai → ై, o → ొ, O → ో, au → ౌ. At the start of a word you get the full letter: illu → ఇల్లు. a is the vowel every letter already has, so type it where you want it: nanna → నన్న.

Which keys give which consonants?

Capitals give the retroflex letters: T → ట, D → డ, N → ణ, L → ళ, Sh → ష. Use th for థ, sh for శ, R for ఱ and ksh for క్ష. Consonants typed together are joined, as in amma → అమ్మ. A word ending in a consonant gets the virama ్, except m, which gives ం. Use M for ం anywhere.
